Don't care for the calendar - otherwise the dial is great looking. Even given all of the handwork, 8 grand on a watch could be much better spent.
Prices are so stupid now that $8k isn't that outrageous. It's not that much more than a AT or GS, it probably gets you some 34mm Rolex. It's very subjective but I can't think of too many watches I'd rather have for $8k than the blue urushi.
I don't think it's outrageous - and I think the dial is very cool - aside from the lacquer, the effect of the markers and the chapter ring is great. I didn't catch the movement used as about the 19th time young Mr. Weiss was trying to
wrap his head around something I stopped watching and cut to the website.
Given the movements house branded caliber number and 28 h power reserve, sounds like the SW-200-1. While Minase goes to great lengths to tout the modifications they do in house, they didn't elaborate beyond a custom rotor and hand engraved perrlage, so I reckon the 'mods' amount to the aforementioned and in-house regulation. Overall, one could certainly do much worse for the price.
My personal preference would be to put the money into Tudor, Nomos, gray Breitling* or Omega which buys an in-house movement, nice dials,
and pretty damn good finishing, by golly. I'm just not big on buying novelties for the price of inveterate heritage.
In the parlance of the car business; there's a watch for every wrist, or something like that.
* I haven't looked at the gray Breitlings lately so I'm not certain what the BO1 Avengers, Navitimers, Chronomatts and sew Fourth are fetching these days.
