Doxa FB page fanbois and Homages

Post by koimaster » October 4th 2021, 3:52pm

So I was reading the doxa fanboi page at FB today when someone posted about the Army version which Doxa originated and Synchron aka little rickie homaged. Now all the doxa fanbois swooned over the little rickie version despite it being a homage. The fanbois paid big bucks for the homage as they sold for $1800 or more. I guess the cost of an ETA movement really has gone up. Estimated cost is $290 per movement for just one but for multiples it drops below $100.

Land yachts, wide trousers, big guitar solos, bigger hair. And bold wristwatches. The Seventies was a decade that saw an explosion of style. Sober midcentury codes were thrown out in favor of bold colors and designs. Watches became an extension of one’s individuality and an expression of style. Experimental shapes, an interplay of colors, and chunky cases demanded attention. Watches weren’t just about telling time anymore.

$1800 for that Synchron? Unreal.

A fool and their money and sew fourth.

And NOT swiss made according to the dial. I image made in the same chinese factory that makes doxa or even the factories that make maranez and the other doxa homages. Only difference is the alleged swiss movement. No doubt cased anywhere but the land of cheese.

As an update, seems not all doxa fanbois are stupid. Several own maranez verions of the army and sub.

I noticed the non Swiss Made dial. That’s fine with me but I’d use a high beat Miyota movement and price it to not compete with a new Speed Timer or The Citizen.
I get it that Clive Cussler and fanboys wouldn’t be interested in the latter but why not try to grow the base? For me the three share identical traits: totally unnecessary, one could argue almost gimmick watches that are still affordable but will have no impress almost nobody in the general population. As it stands I’m in danger of purchasing the first two and totally disinterested in the last. If it were cheaper and the owners were more honest and transparent it could change. Maybe.

So you are interested in the domain and synchron but not the maranez?
