IWC?

Post by jason_recliner » October 4th 2022, 6:19pm

Any thoughts on IWC? They make some really nice watches IMO but we don't see many posted on here.

The new Mk is out:

It looks superb and would be an excellent, if very expensive, everyday versatile watch. But how do you go from Mk XVIII to Mk XX? That's fucked.

Interesting question. I had a customer in my bookselling days who owned a couple IWCs, which were fine, but kind of dull. They strike we as watches worn by boring WASP old guys.
The Mk dials and handsets look 'flat' to me, which makes them look, to my eye, cheaper than they are. I like the style, I'd like to wear one, but I see watches that look as good for much less.

They seem to me to be commonly bought by people with little imagination who collect "iconic" things. They have a Rolex Sub, Speedie Pro, and a IWC Mk in their collection. A Reverso, too, if they're lucky. They probably own Ray Ban aviators and their jeans are 501s.

Having said the above, I want one.

.

Nice watch and inexpensive.
I would own one if it weren't for owning a pricier Zenith Pilot.
You sure the IWC is cheaper? $9k over here :-(

The IWC's site shows the XX on leather with a MSRP of $5,250 usd and Zenith had my 40mm Type-20 Pilot at $6,300 usd so the prices are indeed close enough.
Not sure how that compares in Aussie dollars.

They can be found for 2-3,000.00, I keep looking for a better deal.

You might not be a WASP, but those are some fine-ass shoes.
Thanks, I would hope my shoes help with lack of an imagination. Cause recliner nailed 2 of 3 below. I do definitely like "iconic" watches.

IWC makes great watches. Well made and finished. I have a couple. I don't have raybans or 501s though and I'm definitely not a wasp.

Love both of those. Step up in every way from the Mk.
