Truth Behind Vogard's Sale of its Patent to IWC

Post by koimaster » March 20th 2020, 11:18pm

I’ve known Michael Vogt for at least 10 years. He founded his company, Vogard, back in late 2002/ early 2003, and brought the brand to BaselWorld with a unique patented World timer watch in 2014. Last year marked the 10-year anniversary of that revolutionary watch – it also marked the sale by Vogard to IWC (owned by Richemont) of its world timer patents and related technology. It was a bittersweet moment.

Vogard exhibited every year at BaselWorld in Hall 5 – a small hall that one had to really want to visit to go there. Just finding it was often a chore thanks to a labyrinth of escalators and hallways. Getting there was always a joy. Here were some of the finest independent and unusual brands. This hall played home to the AHCI (Academie Horlogerie des Createurs Independants) a group of independent watchmakers who join together for various support and exhibition reasons. It was also home to a few movement manufactures and young, start-up brands. Now, BaselWorld has been reconfigured and in the redesign, exhibition space has changed significantly.

With the lilt of Irish laughter

Every day and in every way

Now forever and ever after."
