Montblanc’s march into building their heritage-inspired watch collections has picked up pace in recent years. One of these collection families, the 1858, was introduced as a modern take/ tribute to Montblanc’s history and that of the Minerva manufacture, and it is a new addition to this that is the subject of today’s post.

The lineage of Montblanc’s new 1858 Split Second Chronograph Limited Edition 18 is the 1858 Split Second Chronograph first seen in 2019, itself drawing inspiration from a 1930s Minerva military chronograph and updating it with an 18K “lime gold” case and dial. Mechanically, this new model is identical to the earlier 1858 Split Second Chronograph, which means that its inspiration is not just on the dial but extends to the movement, which was inspired by and derived from, the Minerva Calibre 17-29 pocket watch movement.
