Where did the orange go!

Post by bedlam » September 15th 2013, 3:40am

Here are some shots of a colour palate used for training divers.

First a shot above water, then at 6m, then at 6m with a flash that returns the colours (because the light isn't being filtered through lots of water).

So will Doxa fix my broken orange??? Cos I really need all the extra visibility it gives me under the water!

As an aside, notice I left the macro focus on by mistake in the middle pic and how it is distorting the straight lines when used from further back. Never noticed the effect before because I guess I'm not photographing straight edges much

The yellow is gone by 15 metres or so too. Black provides the best visibility.

Bedlam

After slogging through countless opinions of what features and characteristics make for an excellent dive watch from people who have never dived, I would be interested to hear your perspective on what works best. Hell, it may be more interesting to hear your take on what DOESN'T work - just like the whole orange dial thing. Or even "dive watches people love to buy but work like shit on an actual dive".

No idea. It certainly provides no benefit to the diver...so who the hell knows why they would ask Doxa for it specifically.

Nice work. Yet another micro brand myth debunked at WL.

Re: the distortion in macro mode: A true macro lens is flat field, that is, there is no curvature to the lens elements. With a true macro lens, light travels to the film or sensor an equal distance from the center of the lens as it does from the edges. This provides maximum sharpness with no distortion throughout the range of magnifications including 1:1 (life-size) or greater throughout the frame. In a camera with macro mode, what you are really getting is close focus, a shift in the focusing unit that allows closer focusing, or, a close focusing lens element that slides into place. The distortion in the middle pic is caused by the curvature of the lens elements and is always there, it's just more obvious in pics with straight lines.

Its easiest to give examples of watches you like and I let you know if there are any problems with them. Otherwise I'd be typing for days

But on dry land, the orange looks quite nice. :-)
Which is good cos it looks like mud underwater

The deepest I go these days is in my hot tub. Interesting info at any rate. Doxa is still putting out those Orange dials and at least to me, is synonymous with their brand.
