Completely off topic... Groove

Post by AlbertaTime » February 17th 2025, 5:47pm

Hi all ...

I was looking for a small guitar, just for fun and I've always been a fan of single-cutaway Les Paul Jrs. And I saw this: the Groove Humbucker Short 32'' Electric Guitar. 32" is 5 inches shorter than even a 3/4 size vintage LP Jr.

At$120 USD, I kinda expected a toy, and...well, it *is* a toy, but it arrived with very decent electronics and hardware and a *beautifully* set up, highly playable neck, with a velvety soft light lacquer back finish. I mean, the ad said it would be set up by the company luthier before sending (and Kana music has been around for years) but I didn't expect what I got.

The fret edges were 100% pro--felt like butter, and I couldn't ask for better on the string height. Intonation at open and twelve was perfect, right outta the box. The neck feels like the guitar cost hundreds more. The electronics work fine. The humbucker is quiet and the thing has useful tones. And volume if you want it.

So I'm happy.

And now I'm thinking that a lifter nut might also turn this into a very serviceable lap steel, too.

What else? Well, the usual -35°C (-31°F), still working and day to day...

And I still have some writing on my trip to do, but it's cold and I procrastinate Image

congratulations. looks nice, hope it sounds as good as it looks
Thanks!

It's tiny so it doesn't have deep tone, but its good enough for practice and jamming. Plus, I have a good processor from back in the day (Digitech RP300) so I can make it sound pretty decent, at least to my ears. I'm nobody's idea of a good guitar player, but I know some stuff, and I know what I'm listening for.

Thanks, all.

It is a fun little guitar. It'll never be the one I pick up for daily practice (too small for that) but I'm really very surprised at the overall quality.
