AMCHPR 2024 China Tour: photos of Beijing

Post by AlbertaTime » November 8th 2024, 8:37am

There's 10 or so shots, so I'll post this and a reply...some afternoon and evening shots taken over the past three days.

I've been in meetings most days with Mr. Li of the CHA and it's been exhilarating and tiring, with lots of ground covered. News as I can provide it.

Here's the photos, and i wish you folks could've come along with me...

Me too, the closest I've been to mainland China were my frequent flights into Taiwan & British Hong Kong.

Though I think my ankle bracelet currently wouldn't allow the trip (joking)

Wow, where were all the people? Beijing looks beautiful but deserted in your wonderful photos.
I think like most cities, Beijing is most crowded looking/feeling when folks are getting to and from work, the usual rush hour(s)--but street and sidewalk traffic is otherwise pretty much like anywhere. I seldom feel crowded in China.

Oh, except right next to schools when school lets out...that's crowded, too, especially in a narrow hutong/alley in a downtown area...but that only lasts about 15 minutes.

I'll also note that for some scenic shots, I try to pick moments with fewer people. Mind you, I just looked at these and there's a few folks in most of them, just they weren't taken in rush hour.

To everyone: I really appreciate all your very kind comments, here and throughout my travels this time.

I'm leaving Beijing in a few hours: Beijing to Hong Kong, then Hong Kong to Vancouver, then Vancouver to Edmonton, then home to Peace River.

I always feel kinda depressed when it's time to leave China, but there's future visits on the horizon, so that's a good thing.

Once I return, I'll be working on the website and adding details. As always, I'll keep you all in the loop.

Again, the 'Lords rawk, allaya.

All of my Chinese coworkers have told me how much better the food is in China than here.
Someone should.

But it's not just the Chinese food. Last night, Li Wei treated me to a local Beijing restaurant that serves Russian food.

This spread was a little over $60 CDN, and it could've easily fed four people. We'd eaten half of what's here before I thought to take a photo, and there's a huge bowl of beet/tomato soup that hadn't arrived when I took it.
