Re: The fun begins...AlbertaTime China Tour 2024
For sure. Balmain is also very 'up scale', not a lot of traffic on her street. But people still walk/drive up the street and they're a few metres from my bed! I just can't get comfortable with it, I need separation from everybody else (when I'm in my home), the streets around our homes have something like (guessing) 7-10m setbacks. I prefer it that way. And I sure as hell don't want to open my front door and walk on to a street, regardless of how quiet it is!AlbertaTime wrote: ↑October 17th 2024, 8:31pmWell, nothing moves too fast on that street except for battery powered bikes. An interesting thing about hutongs like Lishi: a big surprise is how quiet they are, even in the middle of the day. There might be some higher noise for a few minutes as school kids get out (a school is about 200 feet away, IIRC, but otherwise, it's easy to have a quiet conversation--and the hutong is in central downtown Beijing.jason_recliner wrote: ↑October 17th 2024, 5:12pmDamn! Imagine if that's a house! Walk out the front door onto the street!
Also, the back door of the house very likely opens to a small but nice courtyard shared by 4 other houses. Not my photo (and wintertime), but something like this would be typical:
