Oct 27th and 28th 2025 w/Zhang Zhenghao and Ma Rong

Post by AlbertaTime » November 23rd 2025, 4:52am

From the link https://www.amchpr.com/zhangzhenghao-216186.html:
This first part was later the same day I'd visited with Xu Yaonan, the 27th of October.

It was now evening in Shijiazhuang, and I'd taken the train that evening to visit a few days with my brother Ma Rong. I received a Wechat text a couple of days earlier from Mr. Zhang, one of my most knowledgeable Shanghai collector friends.

He advised that wanted to send me a small gift, and it would be rude to refuse. As I wouldn't be able to visit Shanghai this year, Mr. Zhang sent the watch to me in Shijiazhuang, by courier, because it and I would arrive in Shijiazhuang the same day...
The watch is a 1980s SS8 thin Shanghai movement watch with a rare case shape.

Two teaser photos...

Thanks for the kind words.

The best thing about this thing of ours is the people, and it's wonderful for me that so many of my watches have some kind of personal connection (and I know many of us have these 'personal connection' watches in our collections).

Moderator Chascomm (Michael) over at Watchuseek F72 (Chinese) said about another of my pieces: "I love the idea of looking at your wrist to check the time and thinking ‘ah, remember that day when …'" and I love it just the same way.

Excellent post, Mr. Ron, as always.
Thanks, John. Really, it was just a deserved thank you and some photos of the day.

But it was a very good day :-)

Cool watch!

I need to get to Alberta. I just read they don't allow rats into the province.
Thank you!

Wut?

Albertans have enjoyed living without the menace of rats since 1950 when the Rat Control Program was established. Alberta’s rat-free status means there is no resident population of rats and they are not allowed to establish themselves. It does not mean we never get rats. Small infestations occasionally occur, but when found, the rats are isolated and eradicated through proven control methods.

Find out how we keep Alberta rat-free and what you can do to help.

Interestingly, as a Young Conjurer, me and my pals watched The Rat Patrol every week, and laughed hard when Sergeant Troy cut down numerous Nazis with a .50 caliber machinegun.

A couple of years ago I found a rerun of this series on late night cable, and was astounded at how homoerotic it really was. It was totally obvious how Sgt. Troy and Kraut Captain Dietrich really wanted to punch each other in the seat rather than make war.

THE END
