Post by koimaster » December 12th 2020, 2:29pm

Country music legend Charley Pride has died at age 86, his representative announced.

Pride died Saturday in Dallas of complications from Covid-19, the release said.
Born on March 18, 1934, the singer was a Mississippi sharecropper's son who became the first Black member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

With the lilt of Irish laughter

Every day and in every way

Now forever and ever after."

My Ex and I used to have dinner with him and his wife when he performed at the clubs on 10thAvenueS in Great Falls, Montana. Late 60s, early 70s. Very nice man and glad I met him.

Always made me feel good when I saw him perform later on TV.

Oh.
Classic American Country is obviously not among the most popular music in Germany, and I do assume few have ever heard any of his songs or performances - but many will have heard his name.
German country band "Truck Stop" had a major hit back in 1978. Title was "Ich möcht' so gern Dave Dudley hören", and it would continue "Hank Snow und Charlie Pride...". The song is about a trucker on Germany's autobahn, heading north and leaving coverage of AFN, the only station that would send country music in Germany.
I am not into country, though I really have given it a chance. But I am sorry for Your loss.
Ardnut since 1989

In twenty years or so, the German language will be one, massively long compound word.
