Chuck Yeager RIP

Post by koimaster » December 7th 2020, 10:24pm

US Air Force officer and test pilot Chuck Yeager, known as "the fastest man alive," has died at the age of 97.

His wife Victoria tweeted from Yeager's verified Twitter account on Monday night that the World War II flying ace died just before 9 p.m. ET.
"An incredible life well lived, America's greatest pilot," she tweeted.

I read his book years ago. He credited his dogfighting skill to growing up in the country with a rifle in his hand and excellent vision. His vision was 20/10, and in the days prior to on board radar and AWACS, the guy who saw the other first had a huge advantage. Another all timer gone west. RIP. This isn't the Glamorous Glennis but it's the only P51 in my imgur account.

I teared up when I saw the news this AM. One of my childhood heroes, a man who lived a life worth remembering.

RIP, good sir. You have earned it.

It was March 4, 1944 during the first daylight raid escorting bombers over Berlin that Chuck Yeager, flying his P-51 ‘Glamorous Glenn’ shot down his first enemy aircraft. Chuck Yeager shot down a Messerschmidt Me 109 that day, unfortunately the next day on March 5th he was shot down by three FW-190’s.

He also named the Bell X-1 after his wife.

I don't even know what to type in here. Feeling quite old right now.

I'm very glad he lived such a long time. For a genuine man such as this, I always thought that was the way things were supposed to work.
Best of luck to all my longtime friends here. Please stay safe, always.
