New chief master sergeant of the Air Force

Post by koimaster » August 25th 2020, 3:00pm

Chief Master Sgt. JoAnne Bass on Friday became the 19th chief master sergeant of the Air Force at a ceremony at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

Bass is the first woman to serve as the highest-ranking noncommissioned officer in any of the military services. She is also the first person of Asian-American descent to be the Air Force’s top enlisted leader. She succeeded Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Kaleth Wright, who served in that role since February 2017 and retired at the ceremony

A good friend's father was the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. These top enlisted ranks, only one at a time per branch*, AFAIK, are the most difficult ranks to achieve in the military. They are also the only rank with an insignia that includes stars designating the rank other than admirals and generals. And still no General of the Army since O. Bradley so perhaps that one's the toughest to achieve.

Remarkable.

*AIR there are two E-9 ranks in the Air Force, but the Master Chief of the Air Force is the highest.
