I did a search of ShopNBC on the FTC website, only one real incident from 2003 (initial charge during 2001 for Dietary supplements). The penalty of $215,000 seems rather small considering;

"Violations of FTC orders carry a penalty not to exceed $11,000 per violation"

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2003/04/valuevision.shtm

QVC (albeit much larger) was hit for 1.5 Million dollar penalty
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2010/04/infomercials.shtm

HSN paid a 1.1 million dollar penalty for therapeutic product claims
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1999/04/hsn1.shtm

FTC Website search results
-----------------------------
QVC - 361 hits
HSN - 151 hits
ShopNBC/ValueVision - 4 and 43 hits repectively

Perhaps ShopNBC is better connected ?

Interesting thread which was originally produced by Koi a few years ago I believe. The bottomo line on this whole "Swiss" = "Swiss Made" as stated by Jimmy "Hoagie Hero" Skelton was and has been proven bullshit. Not surprising considering the source of info and the manufacturing Sales company.

Yepper. That sad thing is that I'd wager that more "reveals" are yet to come once battery changes on the newer IWG models become needed and people start crackin' 'em open.

Good time for a bump, now that Swiss Legend has apparently come out with a "Swiss Made" line. Wonder where those heirlooms are being made? One credit to SL, at least the one I saw stated it had a sapphire crystal, but...still, one has to wonder when/were if it's sold via oily hypemiesters.

Apart from SL's appalling history of theft of intellectual property, most of their hype over the years was pretty restrained. Also, under the name of SWI, they apparently produced a number of higher-end (for TV watches) models that were certainly made in Switzerland. I don't personally doubt that whoever runs the company now was able to find some Swiss contract house to produce their Swiss Made line--and perhaps even a well-regarded company at that.

I spoke with a respected Swiss watchmaker a while ago who informed me that most of his income was coming from a fashion company who had contracted him to produce a line of watches under the fashion company's name; he did this because it kept his workers employed, as his own brand was lagging in sales. Naturally, SL might be going with some sleazy contractor, too. There are plenty of greasy-ass Swiss out there who might make Eyal blush.
