Dan Henry can kiss my ass!

Post by Budman2k » November 5th 2019, 3:51pm

So as some of you may have seen, I purchased a Dan Henry 1962 chrono last week. Nice watch, but I decided to send it back. I liked it, just didn't love it. So I start the email return process. They ask for pictures of the watch, strap etc. After looking at the pictures they tell me they can't take the watch back because of a mark on the natural leather strap. Here's his email:
Hi xxxxxx,

your strap is marked between the 3rd and 4th holes and you removed the plastc protector from the buckle, so you tried it on and marked, sorry, but I can not sell a strap in these conditions.

Here's the pictures of the strap:

So how the hell can you try the watch on with the plastic on the buckle ?!?!? The part that really pisses me off is that I put the watch on with the natural leather strap and immediately took it off and put the blue strap on. So how could the strap be marked!

After I replied to them here's his response:

you simply didn't follow our policy for returning a watch.

you can try a watch without closing the buckle and marking the strap. This is why I add the plastic into the buckle

if you like to return the watch and blue strap no problem.

Sincerely,
Dan

So beware if you're going to order. You can LOOK at the watch but don't fucking try it on! I'll just keep it instead of buying a $45 20mm strap!

What's the price differential if you return the watch with just the blue strap?

Hm. Their price tag is pretty far into the lower end, thus the profit margin likely does not allow for a generous return policy. And I would agree with the strap looking like this, they can not sell it as "new" anymore. Thus: Eat it.

.

Yep ^, policy is policy.

I do not understand why one must put a watch on & latch the buckle to see if it "sings" to them.

I recently returned a watch in the original vacuum-packed bag because it was underwhelming to me. The first thing I did was to measure the strap pieces to see if it would fit my wrist.

This is how I received it, this was how it was returned.........

"I do not understand why one must put a watch on & latch the buckle to see if it "sings" to them."

I'm going to wear it. I want to feel how it sits on my wrist. IMO it would be like sitting in a car without driving it and have someone expect me to buy it!
Also, if you look at the photos I posted when I bought it you can see that the strap has some "lighter" texture in the same area; this was before I tried it on. That's the part that pisses me off. With the naked eye this strap looks brand new. I had to use a magnifying glass to see what he was talking about..

OK....Rant off

Methinks how a wartch sits on the wrist can be checked without strapping it down.......even if it is vacuum-packed.
My return went flawlessly.

FTR- my last three car purchases were done without driving them....

$45.00 for the strap. I'll just keep the watch.

Or return it and take ownership of a ,I assume ,strap that's well worth 45.00

The whole thread is interesting food for thought.

Frankly, I don't see a problem with that strap as bud showed it. Yet, I can see why DH wouldn't resell it. This is like one of those odd baseball plays where even the replays can't give you a definitive call.

Personally, I like Dan Henry and I've had the opportunity to talk to him at length three times. I like his products as well; I can't imagine he'd want to piss off a customer without believing he couldn't resell the strap.

I guess basically, I'm stating: This one is a real poser. I think you're in the right place, bud - if you do keep the watch and find you don't enjoy it, I'd wager you could re-sell it here to one of our members - "marred" strap and all.

That's because they're vintage designs that miserable old farts prefer and you, sir, are a young whippersnapper.

Any time I have purchased a watch o/l the return policy has been clearly laid out. Joma for example- at least used to- attach an anti-tampering type of device and if it was defeated the watch was yours. WoW clearly stated that if the protective coverings were removed, the watch was yours.

IDK what the status of the delineation of the return policy at DH is but if it isn't clearly stated on the site or at checkout, he's a dick for not taking the watch back- btw- that strap costs him about $5- a petty amount to lose a customer over, indeed.
