Hello, again.
I'm very sad to see Alain has passed, but thank you for having me back. My last stint here ended badly because I was an angry cunt.
I am still an angry cunt, don't let the user name fool you, but my children are older and it turns out so am I and I guess things change.
When I first joined this forum in 2011, I was an Infantryman Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. I had been given (and still have) my paternal grandfather's IWC pocket watch, which he purchased in 1925 when he graduated law school in Hungary.
While I had always loved cool watches, my Dad wore Seikos and I had various digital surfing and sports watches growing up, I hadn't yet built a collection of mechanical watches or even higher end quartz movements.
I did have a quartz Tag and one of the original 500 Marathon SAR watches with the applied maple leaf, purchased from countycomm.....
Anyway, I eventually built up a collection of 41 or so watches, mostly mechanical. I had a Spork and an SARB015 Alpinist and lots of Seikos from Seiya san.
None were very expensive, every single one was chosen and purchased because it was unique in some way. Lots of the little boutique brand 'dive' watches. I loved my stupid little collection.
Now, I am a machinist and Toolmaker with a tiny CNC shop in the garage here at my house, where I also grow tea (Camellia sinensis) and volunteer as a Clemson Extension Master Gardener. One of my classmates from my machinist degree now works for a super luxury watchmaker in Los Angeles.
I own exactly one watch (aside from the IWC which rarely comes out): a Timex/Peanuts collaboration automatic with Snoopy at the typewriter at the 6 o'clock position. My now ex girlfriend gave it to me in 2020. It's inaccurate and has the literal worst power reserve ever, and I love it.
That's it. All of the others were sold when the twins' mother kicked me out ten years ago. I also lost a nice 17 foot poling skiff, for the record.
Thanks for having me back.
Anthony
