What our Dear Leader is trying to say, is get a Citizen.
The Citizen NB1050 is pretty tough to beat on value proposition. What you get for less than 400 dollars is terrific and it doesn't have any dealbreakers although the bracelet is widely reviled. Really just a question if there is anything out there that beats it in ways worth paying for. It isn't very distinctive, which can be a feature or a bug

Citizens thesis for NB1050 is there is still a market for a 400 dollar baby GS. Seems like by internet activity. Will it achieve being a benchmark like SARBs? That doesn't seem likely but probably not Citizens intention and times have changed.
Yeah it's alright but your budget will get you into The Citizen.
There is one The Citizen I have wondered about

Around 2012?i ised to see a model on sale that was lije a durect copy of a Grand Seiko. Exactly what you eould think back then, cream and black models, some nice atlutatuc movement and finishing and priced at lower GS tier.

I am guessing they didnt sell all that well because Citizen didnt serm to follow op in the thread and dont recall running across any used ines although I havent looked very hard

Citizen didn't have a high end mechanical movement back then. Better off getting nearly new in your budget - see links I posted.
I was aware of this ar the time and I regarded it as some oddball try hard thing at the time . Dint remember exactly but price was north of 2k and if memory is correct actually said The Citizen on dial

Have you made a decision Mr. Wis? We are all very curious to see what you picked.

It would be nice if you further introduced yourself and shared a few watch photographs.
Still simmering on the selection but I suspect ut is going to be boringly predictable.

As noted I was previously registered as robatsu but I will reintroduce.

Started wearing watches of necessity as 10yo morning paper boy. Got exposure to Japanese watches in 70s via military service.

80s/90s all about Swiss and German stuff.

Around 2000 started riding the mostly Seiko JDM and got more WISsy buying selling involved in the interest

IMO the golden era of JDM watches was roughly 2000 to 2015 or so. Fun wave but over now.

65 now, past few years have been about simplifying and I have been identifying or wanting to identify a couple of core pieces I can be happy with indefinitely

Not to stop catch and release but what are defaults in the watch case

Robatsu? No way! Well why the fuck didn't you say so? Hell, why the fuck are you no longer Robatsu? Or is that a painful story? Anyway, good to have you back, looking forward to seeing what you get.

Why the misrepresentation?
Misrepresentation seems like a non neutral term.

Why did I create a different account? Because I couldn't log in with my old one.

I will add that I actually got my answers, my thanks to forum for that and Lingines Flagship is intriguing, both date and chrono models.

I will be on my way if not welcome, no problem there.
