Hi from London

Post by Pubbie » September 22nd 2017, 8:25am

Greetings, just joined and looking forward to the forum.

I'm a full-time academic publisher and part-time watchmaker, by which I mean I nail watches together in my shed at weekends and wear them until they leak. I do have a handful of shop-bought watches of various origins, but I don't do Big Brandz, Is A Better Than B, Is Spring Drive A Quartz Movement, Are Big Watches A Fad, I'm Devastated - My Wrist Is In Between Link Sizes or any of that other guff. Just watchmaking and looking forward to a bit of technical discussion.

Cheers

Welcome to Watchlords, Drew! Always glad to see yet another tinkerer come aboard, as we have only a couple, one of whom is an enigmatic Frenchman, who takes perfectly decent right-handed watches and modifies them into lefties, even though he himself is right-handed. And while we DO have a few Brits here, Messr. Dirtbox is not one of them; he's just some American escapee from a geriatrix ward who likes calling everyone a 'plank.' We have quite the group of unusuals, 'strangies' and even a couple of deplorables, though these latter have eschewed their baskets for more comfortable digs. We also have a gentleman who eats with his pecker and a deceased fellow (which would be Yours Truly), and a whole cavalcade of unique personalities and mental illnesses. In short, you've come to the right place!

Do share some photos of your watches when you have a moment, and again, welcome to Watchlords! 8-)

Welcome to Watchlords; the joint's more fun than a human being should be allowed to have.

Look forward to some pics of your work.

Nope... cynical? :)

Mind you, you've given me an idea about disruptively innovating in the Swiss-style watch market, or Swiss-stye disruption in watch market innovation, in order to sell outsourced product that's as individual as you are. Or something like that.

Here are some awful shots of a couple of quartz cheapies and what I usually wear. I have one working home-made watch which is as individual as I am but I need to take a picture of that. I'll start a separate thread about LIP...

Brits are all over this place now. Must have to do with the Brexit, verdammt. No one wants them in continental watch forums anymore.
