I confess I was ultimately put off with philosophy three or four decades ago and have not really been able to give it the propper consideration it deserves. I think I may be ready to give it a new look.

"Philosophy and Physics are simply the two ends of the same stick. It will be found that the stick cannot be explained by only one of its ends. While I won't permit you to eat my lunch, I am happy enough to share it with you."

Thanks for the kind offer of lunch. But I would gladly take instead a discussion of the above quote. I would need to proceed in excruciatingly small steps clearing away ambiguity and semantic problems one tedious little bit at a time. And regrettably we would have to start with epistemology to make sure we are in the same cognitive universe. (I will ignore the suggestion from my spell checker that we start with entomology.)

If you are interested I invite you to begin here with a tiny little chunk of your thinking on epistemology, so small that it will require few posts to get the semantics settled. That kind of approach is all I can cope with.

But now I have to change watches and go mow some pasture.

At the time I lost interest in philosophy the Gettier problem had not come to my attention. My sincere thanks for introducing me to this. It will take me a bit to digest it and respond. It certainly seems the place to start.

Actually the pig is not all that fond of pats, but a pop-tart, now that's getting real.

Indeed. We've wasted plenty of bandwith on shit that's totally goddamn stupid--I should know, I've started most of the threads--besides, this high-tone stuff keeps the geeks away. Carry on!

Good enough, Bigjimzlll, if you want in I'll keep it here.

I can't help notice that your signature image looks like a representation of a particle collision. May I ask why you chose that?

And thank you conjurer.

I've been vocal about my belief in God, and taken some flak for it. I for one can justify my belief in God and the sciences.

The signature is of what the "God Paticle" (Higgs boson) signature may look like. I hope the LHC at CERN answers some very big questions, but may just muddy the waters even more.

So it's just my way of keeping the faith

Oh, DOUBLE WOW Bats Man, the powers that be have essentially named this a battle of prattle. I think that pretty clearly indicates this is the kind of “gentleman’s club” in which I have neither business nor interest in belonging. I am especially sorry, Falstaff, that I did not get the chance to pick more of your brain. Bye all, and best wishes.

Plenty of members have had their threads moved to other forums and didn't go home crying. Why don't you talk about watches and let this thread be what it is: a discussion between you and falstaff and BigJim? Leaving just proves you didn't have the fortitude in the first place.

I was really enjoying this read myself. Oh well, there is always the WL politics Image
After all, no ham-wristed louts complained when all watches were 34mm - no cries of "looks like a little girl's watch on my wrist!" Like King Canute on the beach, that's where I draw the line - come what may.

I got this as a PM and in the middle of replying I realized that I had misunderstood the significance of the thread being moved. I think it is excellent that this thread is no longer a pain in the ass to so many. So I apologize and if you guys will have me back I will return.

No need to apologize, Bob, goddamn it! We've let plenty of mouth-breathers back in, so for a guy like you with brains it's--well, it's a no-brainer.

At the risk of patting myself on the back, it was I who sent the PM asking Bob to stick around. I am two of the three things you mention (sorry Mom), but I believe we will only benefit from EntropicTime staying on
