Hello Again (yeah another member resurfacing)

Post by OTMF » November 14th 2025, 3:41pm

Hi everyone,

I haven’t really been here in several years.

I know Alain has passed, and it breaks my heart, because he is one of my heroes.

I'm serious about my heart being broken,
I know I haven't had a chance to read all of the threads yet, but just the news was sadly overwhelming.

Alain was the big brother I think I always needed.
His ability to fight for what is right, and share his knowledge, even when it's not politically correct was such an adrenaline rush, such an inspiration.

The way Alain had the ability to bring people together, and not try to influence but listen and the community making final consensus is such a beautiful thing. It's what make this forum such a wonderful community.

He taught me, through his example -and his guidance, that nobody is too tiny, or too large, in this world of watch collecting.
He treated everyone equally from my very first Invicta to my other collections that he had helped guide me to purchase.
He was truly a mentor and a friend.

God bless you Alain!
I'm sure that you're with Carol right now.
I hope that you have your Corvette you loved,
so you can take Carol for a spin around eternity.
I love you Alain,

God Bless

I'm so glad that the keys to the shed have been left to such honorable people that, despite my heart ache over Alain's passing, I'm sure he and his family are positive that the right people are in charge.

Except, for that Conjurer fellow.
He has this sexual Fetish for Susan Boyle, even though she is on my weekly personal goon list, he had no right to take it public like he has.

Oh, and Dr. Smells,
I never did trust the Doctor, because he farted once, and he never said excuse me.
I said it's okay Doc,
and he just slurred, "Cash-me-outside".

To all the rest remaing, I promise to never buy an Invicta watch, or a Renato, or one of those are the only two crap watches I can think of at the moment.

With all of that said, you guys have taught me so much!

I want to go back and revisit my posts to when I got divorced, and gave away all my Invicta's, Renatoes, and a few others, to members for 10-25 bucks, or free. I think I even paid for shipping for some of them.

I was such a fool and this community enlightened me to my blindness my ignorance, my unknowing yearning for the proper term.
For lack of a better term, this forum helped me from being a boy watch collector, to become a man watch enthusiast.
I have learned so much, from each and every one of you. Each and every one of your opinions matters. Each and every one of your experiences matter.

I never obtained the level of so many of you in regards to collections, knowledge, experience. But my small collection I was very proud of.
I had earned it, and was so proud when I got two or three or four very meaningful pieces.
I know it sounds like I'm rambling but if you read this far then you need to read this next part...

This forum is a Haven for everyone who has that yearning, lust, fill in the blank, for watches. I won't tell you my history, but this form has been a sanctuary for knowledge.

I wish I could have conjurer fill in the blank here,

DESCRIBE WATCH LORDS in 100 WORDS OR LESS:

_________________________________

(I got in at 99 words, whew!)

My only answer is, Watchlord's is not only a starting point for many as it should be. But it is the final destination for most who seek truth behind the bullshit, truth from blatant lies, who seek knowledge from watch 101 to watch guru, this is your final destination. No other forum on this planet can compare. There have been dozens of other forums that have tried. They might have lasted couple of years, some more, but all of them are gone, this is the one and only end of the internet when it comes to watches.

(I got in at 99 words, whew!)

So again thank you all!
It's been a hell of a ride for me personally! ❤️

Thank you all for putting up with me for all these

This is Rick Bock in Kansas City, signing off for now

Welcome back!! It’s good to see you found a spare key please remember to put it back in its hiding place. Divorce is a pain in the ass and a money pit only people making money off it are the attorneys.

Alain is and will always be remembered by most of us as one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. I miss his wisdom and thoughts on things. As with everything in life there are disagreements be about a watch or something else (IE: stupid second rate KC helmets) but I won’t hold your bad judgment in football teams against you.

Alain was a pal's pal. Back in Chicago we would have called him a good guy--which sounds kind of feeble, but in Shy if you were a good guy it was the highest praise. A good guy would cover your back in a bar fight, and should things go south, and the knives came out, he'd take one in the liver to protect you and then, laying there bleeding out on the floor, he'd grip your hand and have a final hearty laugh on how fucked up the universe truly was.

To relate an old story about how Alain was, I had posted here about trying to order a piece of shit Smiths Everest from the UK around Christmas way back, and found that the website was closed for two or three weeks because of the holiday. I went off a bit about the Brits, how they were a bunch of socialist commie bastards who were more interested in drinking punch and (probably) sucking each other off during Christmas than selling product. The goof who sold Smiths posted this at TZUK; to his credit, he thought I was pretty funny. Alas, most of the British members were not as amused. Alain, who was a member there, immediately (and somewhat stridently) defended me. Things headed south PDQ. Most of the Brits, with a surprising lack of good humor (or humour), got pissed off, which cut little to no ice with Alain, who responded that Americans had prevented the English from speaking German twice in the last century.

When we finally met in real life, at a GTG, Alain shook my hand and said that he thought that I'd have been bigger. I always wish that I had.

Welcome back! Yeah, Alain was the kind of guy who made me proud to be American.

I certainly hate their ridiculous over stylization but there are a few watches made by that awful firm which aren’t completely awful. I still have a couple bought before I knew what the hell. They are fine. Not special, not terrible, inexpensive. But that guy Eyal… whadda douche.

Say… did you know there was once an Invicta automobile?

Yeah, most people don’t…. 🤔

They were a British endeavor made from 1925 through about 1938.

Like the modern watches, the Invicta automobile achieved a degree of mediocrity that even today provokes strangers into saying aloud, “Meh…”
