Hi Folks,

Finally getting around to getting my great-grandfather's pocket watch running. My grandfather dropped it sometime before I was born, and it sat in a plastic bag in Hawaii for years, before sitting in a bag at home with me for years. Its a Howard watch, apparently from the Keystone-Howard era, and missing some pieces:







Not knowing much, I also purchased the following Howard watch recently in hopes of some parts interchangeability:

Anyone have a line on a reliable person/shop to send this too? Much like my Grandfather's Omega, there's not much monetary value, but significant family history in this one.

Looks like there's a chapter not too far away in Kennewick, or the Oak Harbor option is near my folks' place. It would be good to get over to the left side of the state sometime soon.

Well, just got back to town last week, and both watches are operational! Unfortunately, the replacement dial wouldn't fit this case. I was offered a much better condition dial with roman numerals, but opted to keep the original.

Thanks to Koi for the NAWCC recommendation - they set me up with the right guy.

Also got my uncle's Orient up and running. The quick set date pusher was broken and the part needed to be fabricated, and the day wheel pinion was stripped (don't quote me, doing this from memory). I had been trying to get this one running in order to give back to my mother in functioning condition for a few years, but was never able to find anyone willing to tackle it as the monetary value of the watch is nil.

Nice to see some family heirlooms back up and running.

I might recommend these fellows below as well.

Staying with the original dial is a good call but what happened with the fit of the donor dial?

Who did you use? The gentleman in Oak Harbor?

I am trying to steel myself to work on a 1876 James Reid & Bros. P/W, all original signed and numbered movement, silver case, dial.
Made in Coventry UK.







Runs a little, held together mainly using little brass hand made L-shaped pins pushed/tapped into posts with holes drilled for the pins, instead of screws, as can be seen in arrowed close-up.
It's the oldest serial number for this maker I have seen.

Lovely watches you have Airframer, nice to see you got them up and running.


P.S.
I paid less than scrap value for the silver for it, a 1905 example that had been polished so much all the details on the case were gone sold for £160 on eBay a week or so ago...
