Vintage OMEGA “DE VILLE Automatic”
What is the best vintage Swiss automatic self-winding movement ever produced?
Pose this question to hardcore purists and you get different answers, though some answers resonate more than other among serious collectors. The absolute top tier rarely escapes the mention of Patek-Philippe 27-460 (1960-), Audemars Piguet 2071/2 (1960-), Vacheron & Constantin 1071/2 (1959-), and IWC 8541 (1963-1974). Closely following on the 2nd tier are Rolex 1570 (1965-1974, undeniably the very peak of Rolex hand-built era) and OMEGA Mid-500 Series (1958-1970). All are a clear league above nonetheless-accomplished vintage calibers like the Universal 251 “Micro-Rotor” (1955-1960), OMEGA Early-500 Series (1956-1963), or Longines 340 (1960-63).

With the lilt of Irish laughter
Every day and in every way
Now forever and ever after."
