Fake Rolex or not?

Post by bbattle » January 7th 2022, 4:20pm

A friend of my wife died recently and left my wife an Oyster Perpetual Datejust ladies watch.
While she did buy a lot of expensive brands, she also had a number of fake purses, dresses, etc. No big deal if it is a fake but we might want to update our homeowners policy if real.

screw down crown, automatic movement. Nothing on the back at all. bracelet has the usual verbiage on it. don't have pics at the moment. I did set it for her earlier; got lots of little diamonds all around the dial.

Anything else to look for besides opening the case? She also got a quartz Tag Heuer; my wife is building a nicer collection than me.

You could check the stones with a diamond tester - some really good man made diamonds like moissanite can pass, but CZ's or crystals won't. Most jewelers or even mall kiosks have them- you probably could get someone who works the jewelry counter at a COSTCO to check . They have the testers to make sure folks don't switch fakes out for their merch. They also test gold.

I’m not as familiar with ladies version - but their gentlemen’s watches have the serial number etched into the side of the case where the end-links meet to be connected by the spring bar.

Perhaps remove the bracelet to see if intel lurks…?

No, you gotta use a small spring-bar tool and insert it in that tiny hole to push the spring-bar away from the side of the lug:

I really don't know. The hallmarks look there. 18k?

The bracelet is the pearlmaster version.

Better picks. Wish you were closer and could take to my watchman.

I am going to suggest taking it to a trusted jeweler knowledgeable in Rolex and ask for a service quote.

I would still send it to smellody's watchmaker of the stars.
Package it up in a decent size box and ship it insured with tracking to Oregon.
