Ensign Willard
Hey, you know how this watch can be purchased for somewhere around $1K?

I understand it's a well-made watch ("Pay no attention to that man behind the pink curtain") and it's nowhere near a thing I can't live without. Right now I can't live without air conditioning and I just had to buy a new window unit for my apartment.
The main things that come to mind when I see the ol' Captain Willard are Fisher Stevens who I first saw in "Key West." (I watched it mainly to drool over Jennifer Tilly, but I liked him a lot... was a bit surprised when I saw him in "Succession")

and Mr. Mackey.

However, Jody from Just One More Watch convinced me I just had to have an inferior Chinese version (not 1:1, I know) of Captain Willard. NH-35, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, etc. etc. etc. Here is Jody convincing me:

I can't deny it; here is another dark influence:

Today's price in USD:

And it's not in my top 15, but I've worn it for two days straight and it's keeping accurate NH-35 time. It feels pretty good, it looks as good as it can, the Steeldive name and logo are among the least offensive of the Chinese rip-off genre, and my only complaint is that the clasp isn't 100% perfect. Bottom line, eh... worth the price for sure. I'd never buy a Seiko version; there are too many other watches I'd love for that kind of $$$.

Is it safe?
