New to me 80 year old Rolex Oyster Speedking

Post by smellody » September 26th 2023, 7:46am

These little ol' veterans are important to me. This era was really the birth of the Oyster line as we know it today.

I took a gamble on this 4220 working from a couple of really crappy collage pictures of pictures on an online auction. I pieced together all the pictures to determine that the dial was probably fine.

Turns out it was better than fine. Perfect.

Amazing how crazed the crystal is. Eighty years of hard living.

Case is sharp and the crown screws down!

Off for a service and new acrylic crystal for this one.

Here are my other 4220 and 3139 Speedking variants.

Nice collection.

Without hurting the value of the watch, what sort of restoration is possible?
Movement service and new acrylic crystal.
Thanks for the information. I doubt I'll be collecting 80 yr. old Rolex's but I may get lucky at a yard sale with a Bulova or Elgin. Wouldn't want to screw it up.
