Finally got one in

Post by svaglic » February 15th 2023, 2:58pm

Got this today. Learned of this brand from Ron, of course. This is in great shape and I couldn’t be happier with my new to me, vintage Chinese mechanical Zhongshan. These are the Chinese watches I keep an eye out for, the imprinted dials. I will also look for an ST7, but will probably have no luck there.

Cool dial. I was guessing what fang zhen meant (incorrectly) but the translation seems unrelated to watches. Maybe you or Ron know. Congrats on the find.

First, "fang zhen" is shockproof.

Oh! Such a score! I'm so pleased for you. It's a classic.

And the dial is in beautiful shape. The pressing/stamping is really crisp. The "six pandas" is one of the most sought after dials among Zhongshan collectors in China. I think it's their best dial, even if others differ :-)

I expect you'll love the SN-2 movement, too--it's a 9 jewel wonder. In good repair, they're durable, very decently accurate and long power reserve. Get ya through the day.

Here's the SN2 from one of mine for the movement aficionados...

In that era of China, these Zhongshans were considered the "affordables" among Chinese manufactured watches, built for less affluent citizens, but they're strong, and they have a beautifully unique character.

I think the six pandas is way cooler than even a '58 black A-581.
