A couple of new old ones

Post by smellody » March 29th 2024, 7:49pm

See what I did there?

First is a later Rolex Speedking that I've been negotiating on four multiple months. (Yes, I have a lot of Speedkings, perhaps as many as subs, but probably not.) This one has been fully serviced by my watchmaker and sports a correct for the watch, albeit more modern oyster bracelet. These late Speedkings are larger in size than my oldies. I plan, if I get my other projects completed, to put them all together in one case tomorrow.

Sadly, my watchmaker who I've been using and buying from since 1993 is retiring. His partner, who is my jeweler, sold out to a chain.

He sent me a note that everything was on sale. So since I had the last couple days off I ran up to Portland and purchased the Speedking above, a pair of handmade diamond 💎 studs for my wife,

and . .

Back in 2013 as I transitioned from the public to the private sector, I traded off my Gevril Greenwich Chronograph with the Dubois-Depraz module towards my two-tone Daytona. The original owner of this watch bought it from my jeweler with the correct wooden box 📦 that I sourced for it. A couple of months ago he sold it back to my jeweler . . . It is from the late 90's and has NOTHING to do with that TV watch brand. Anyhow, the stacked ring sides match my wedding band, the dial work is exquisite, and it is top two one of the most comfortable bands on any watch. Everything you see in gold is solid 18k.

I'll take more and better pictures after a few other projects.
