Hodinkee Acquires Crown & Caliber
An "open letter" from Hamilton Powell of C&C. All I know is this: It is virtually impossible to find actual journalism about watches in 2021 - everybody from YouTube reviewers to people like these eventually succumb to the big tie-in to monetize their sites and whatnot. And frankly, I think it all sucks. You know what the world needs? More Scotty Kilmers. Stuff like this is how faulty watches or bad repair histories gets shoved under the rug.
Today, I have some very exciting news to share with you... After 8 years of building the #1 solution for buying and selling pre-owned luxury watches, Crown & Caliber has been acquired by HODINKEE, the industry leader in editorial content and pioneers in horology.
Going back to 2015, HODINKEE’s Founder, Ben Clymer and I had discussed the idea of combining our two companies over dinner and the idea which had never left our minds, has finally come to fruition. With mutual respect for each other over the years, the Crown & Caliber team has watched with great admiration as HODINKEE has become the undisputed leader in watch content. Similarly, the HODINKEE team values the incredible customer service and trusted reputation Crown & Caliber has earned for buying and selling pre-owned watches. As we looked at the future of our businesses, we both realized we would benefit from each other’s strengths.
So, what does combining these two industry leaders mean to you?
Well, in the near term, you’ll continue to receive the excellent level of customer service you’ve come to expect from us. Over time, we are excited to update you on ways we are focused on making the watch world better by investing in products and enhancing the customer experience to inspire today’s watch enthusiasts – from novice to seasoned collector.
To all of our customers who have bought or sold a watch at Crown & Caliber over the last 8 years, I want to thank you for all of your feedback, trust and shared love of watches.
