Had It With Photobucket

Post by Bahoomba AKA TB » June 23rd 2015, 4:35pm

The ever changing Photobucket has become an orgy of sidewall ads, come ons for mugs and towels with Aunt Tilda's photo on them, popup full windows full of ads (!), and it's slow and stupid to use any longer. My question: Which photo hosting sides might anyone else use here?

Imgur is all I use now. Paid account I find it so user friendly.

They have updated the iPhone app but I use a third party app as their original app sucked hairy balls.

imgur is the perfect solution for me. I made a how-to here:

If you dislike ads, try UBlock (my new favorite) or Adblock Plus browser extension. It's like a new internet and watching YouTube videos without ads is liberating.

Great idea, Racer. I previously had AdBlock on my browser, but uninstalled it because it messed up a retail site that I trade with every so often. Well, based on your suggestion, I reinstalled it - and now PhotoBucket is a stripped-down, faster site; eight ads were blocked upon the first log in. Great tip.

I stopped using Photobucket after I was told I would
need to pay for more bandwidth. Fook that I just
use Tinypic.

Which one do you think is better? I need to do something about ads myself.

I prefer UBlock because it uses less memory and CPU. Also, there are two versions, UBlock and UBlock Origin. I'd use UBlock Origin for Chrome, UBlock for others.

Adblock is essential. Remember, you can whitelist sites you don't want to block things on, especially when blocking affects functionality

Zenfolio is very good and used by a lot of professional photographers. It's a pay for service. Google has Picasa which I still believe is free and has limited photo editing capabilities.

Photobucket has been down for at least the past two days - at least it has been every time I've tried to log on. In any event, I found a site called Picorator, which offers an ad-free alternative that I tried yesterday and it worked just fine. Free as well.

Yep. Worth a paid account. Mobile app bites, though.

hmm... i didn't know they had paid accounts anymore, mine is free.

Does seem like some time since I saw a charge from them. Looked and it was 2014, actually. $24 extra/yr I didn't know I had. :)

I have used Postimage.org for 3-4 years now, and it delivers.

I recently lost 2500 photos at that site, two of which were part of the portal. Luckily i had downloaded the photos to my computer.

I think they all stink on ice.

I like the direct deposit gig you set up here. Been getting a new body down, gotta find a little time to take some new pics.
