The Return of TROPIC Rubber Straps

Post by Racer-X » October 17th 2019, 1:54pm

"....With the immense popularity of vintage dive watches, collectors have long sought out original TROPIC straps to complete their watches. However, because of that popularity, vintage TROPICs can command very high prices, and while there are many original examples out there, time as well as good ol’ wear-and-tear have made them harder to find in wearable condition. As a result, a number of companies today have produced their own interpretations of the TROPIC strap with varying degrees of success. Some are pretty good, and some are, well, let’s just say not so good.

But now the original is back, and as someone who’s sampled his fair share of the imitators I can say that I’m excited to see TROPIC’s return!"

You should probably look at an original one. The clasp is rather massive, these don't appear cheap. Of course it does remain rubber.

The rally version sucked then, sucks now. The original is very cool looking on any number of vintage or recent divers. I wonder if they got the rubber right. The originals were really comfortable and patterned in the back to channel off sweat and moisture. DiModell and Barton do similar backsides on ruberized leather straps- might be worth a shot if they are returnable.

80 bucks for a rubber? What the fuck?

A bargain compared to Isofranes.
Yep, and as it turns out, the same company who owns isophrane brought these back.

They're even vulcanized. And whatever the hell that is, it sounds like it must be great!

Fuck, haven't even noticed that it's owned by Synchron. The article doesn't mention it...the Tropic website does, at the very bottom of the page.

Fuck Synchron.
