SPEEDMASTER MOON 310 INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
IT'S finally on my wrist after a 30-plus year wait and, surprisingly, I'm not disappointed.
LIKES: Lightweight, slim, good lume, excellent comfortable tapered fully brushed bracelet. Omega's superior fit and finish. Looks rugged but sophisticated.
DISLIKES: Horrid tiny bracelet screws that make sizing a project from hell. They're about the size of a fruit fly - seriously - and if you drop one it's bye-bye forever. I did. After strapping on my jewelers goggles and pulling out all my advanced tools, it still took about an hour to size the bracelet. Interior pins are PITA to remove, too.
OUTRIGHT SILLY: Comes in a five-pound outer box with instructions & historical pamphlet that reveals a two pound inner box with overly complicated closures holding the watch itself. Seems incredibly pretentious. Meh. Even Rolex ain't this grand.
Very satisfied overall, especially when figuring in no tax and discount off retail. Not sure it's worth the full-bore $7k ADs are asking. But the new Moonwatch is a classic - faux history and all. It's better than I ever imagined, more legible than I expected.
Winner, winner chicken dinner.
