Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light

Post by koimaster » August 27th 2019, 8:27am

Omega’s latest debut is a surprising one, an incredibly light wristwatch that is also incredibly expensive – traditionally territory held by brands like Richard Mille. Weighing just 55g, or about 10 sheets of A4 printer paper, the Seamaster Aqua Terra Ultra Light is made almost entirely of titanium, right down to the bridges and plate of the movement. And it retails for US$48,600.

Developed in collaboration with Omega ambassador Rory McIlroy, a four-time majors champion and former world number one, the Aqua Terra Ultra Light is ostensibly conceived to be worn by athletes during competitions.

A new(ish) alloy

The case is 41mm but made from what Omega calls Gamma Titanium, which is actually titanium aluminide (TiAl), a relatively new titanium alloy that’s prized for its hardness and corrosion-resistance, even at high temperatures. That’s why it’s used for the blades of jet engines, amongst other things.

A titanium movement is something new.

Still, 48 000 bucks for this toy? As nice as it is, Omega can go fuck itself. Compared to this thing, even an all-gold Daytona suddenly doesn't look as overpriced as it is.

It's very cool.

It's unattainable for me. That price tag is shocking. I had just seen some pictures of that watch on Instagram but I had no idea about the cost.

$48,000 and those fucking fucks want me to wind it up?

On velcro?

I wouldn't be sorry I couldn't buy it if it was only 6 G's.

Now that TWITanium is a precious metal like pewter, they will likely sell them apace. I believe a distribution deal with the Franklin Mint is being inked as we type.

There'll be two - you're forgetting the "Not For Sale" sample for the Donkeys and RJB of Fratello to wank to.
