Western Kentucky beat Appalachian State and beat them pretty soundly.

And for tonight's game, Tulsa (the Golden Hurricane) has beaten Old Dominion (the Monarchs).

Tulsa is a city in Oklahoma while Old Dominion is in Virginia.

So, I'm 7-3 so far.

Tomorrow, we have Kent State (Golden Flashes) versus Wyoming (Cowboys) and then the University of Texas-San Antonio (Road Runners) versus San Diego State (Aztecs).

They have no idea why Kent State is called the Golden Flashes. They used to be called the Silver foxes and the president of the university at the time raised silver foxes on his farm. But then he got fired and they changed the name of the team. So there you go. The University of Alabama's coach, Nick Saban, played for Kent State so the two teams have played against each other a few times. Kent State got paid enough to fund their entire athletics department as a result. Good to have friends in high places.

Cowboys is patently obvious as are the Aztecs, given San Diego's proximity to the Mexican/Aztec border.

Road Runners are birds that, while they can fly, prefer to run from trouble, much like turkeys, only a lot faster. Many here can recall the adventures of a cartoon Road Runner always eluding a bumbling Wile. E. Coyote every Saturday morning.

10 and 2. Who wood half thunk it? πŸ¦‰
9-3 so far. We should have gone to Vegas with these picks.

I see that Oregon has picked up Auburn's QB Bo Nix. I wish him well out there. He was hot and cold in his three seasons as a starter but there were games where his wide receivers kept dropping passes. Very good runner but he's still got to win the starting job.

That's Oregon, hpt and cold with no real intention.

We should have taken these picks to Vegas!

Thanks for the contest, it is definitely FUN!

Texas A&M pulling out of Gator Bowl; replacement team to be announced.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ources-say

Gator bowl is on December 31 so they may still find another team willing to cash in jump in and play.

As long as they give us some lead time, I think we can select a new winner for that game. Or just scratch it from the list.

I'm thinking A&M got cold feet on account of two of their top players deciding not to play. All they needed was a few to come down with Covid and then they could duck out. Like when a mediocre Notre Dame team was offered a bowl bid and they turned it down as it was beneath "God's Team" to play in a minor bowl.

The Army Black Knights pull out the win on a last second field goal over the Missouri Tigers.

I'm 9-4.

Today, we have the North Texas Mean Green versus the Miami of Ohio Redhawks. Miami has a strong passing attack.

The Mean Green mascot is an eagle named "Scrappy".

The Miami Redhawk mascot is named "Swoop".

That would be awesome if the mascots fought it out!

That puts me at 10 and 3. . .neck and neck.

I see that Rutgers is going to take Texas A&M's place at the Gator Bowl.

They went 5-7 on the year while Wake Forest was second in their conference and is ranked 17 in the nation.

My vote was on Texas A&M but I'll switch it to Wake Forest against Rutgers.

I'll take Wake Forest too.

The Knights of Central Florida defeated the Florida Gators in an upset win.

The Miami (OH)Redhawks defeated The Mean Green of North Texas.

I'm 10-5 now. picked Wake Forest.

Jesse is also 10-5. has picked Rutgers
Nimbleboy is 9-6 already had Wake Forest.
Smellody is 11-4. Wake Forest

Today, Friday the 24th, the Memphis Tigers take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.

Well, Hawaii ducked out due to injuries, transfers, and Covid. The bowl game between them and Memphis was canceled.

Today, we have the TaxAct Camellia Bowl with Georgia State versus Ball State.

The Barstool Arizona Bowl is canceled but the Central Michigan Chippewas will take Miami's place in the Sun Bowl against Washington State Cougars.

I had picked WSU and CMU to win their bowl games so in a head to head contest I'm going to go with the Chippewas of Central Michigan.

CMU technically does not have a mascot so here is a picture of some fancy Chippewa boots

The Maryland Terrapins crushed the Virginia Tech Hokies, 54-10.

The Oklahoma Sooners beat the Oregon Ducks, 47-32.

The Clemson Tigers defeated the Iowa State Cyclones, 20-13.

I am at 16-10.

"Testudo" Terrapin

A hokie, or hokie-bird, is a turkey.
Image

Oregon's mascot is simply "The Duck". He is not called Puddles. Oregon has a licensing deal with Disney and that is why The Duck looks like Donald Duck.
Image

While they are the Iowa State Cyclones, depicting a cyclone is difficult so they have Cy the Cardinal patrolling the sidelines.
Image

A "Sooner" was somebody who snuck into the Oklahoma territory that was being given away before the official government start date. The University has a wagon called "Schooner" that the students drive across the field and they have two horse mascots, named "Boomer" and "Sooner". A Boomer was a settler that did wait for the official start date and then they blasted across the territory in their prairie schooner wagons to get the best spots of land.
ImageImage

Clemson has "The Tiger" for a mascot. Not to be confused with the jillion other tiger mascots out there.
