Yup - goes all the way back to when the Superbowl was contested between the AFL and NFL. Since around 1970 it’s a more incestuous contest held to determine who can field the most memorable advertisements or the most controversial half time show.

It’s been more or less superseded by the LFL, Women’s professional billiards and the now-defunct Hooters Airline.
