Hamilton Intra-Matic Collection

Post by koimaster » January 12th 2021, 12:45am

Hamilton has recently been very active in the field of vintage-inspired and historical models, with multiple very attractive new models, such as the Aviation Converter collection, the Digital PSR, or the Khaki Pilot Pioneer. Yet, we shouldn’t forget another watch, launched in 2017 as a limited edition and inspired by one of Hamilton’s most handsome historic wristwatches, 1968’s Chronograph A. Known as the Intra-Matic, it has since been remodeled with a smaller case. This year, Hamilton is extending the collection with new bracelets on the Chronograph but mostly with the introduction of a new time-and-date, the Hamilton Intra-Matic Automatic 40mm.

I'm going to have to find room for one of these panda chronos before too terribly long..one of the very best looking chronos out there, regardless of price, imo..

I want one and have come close to buying the blue dial BUT, until Hamilton learns how to apply AR coating, not going to buy from them again.

Hamilton's Intra-Matic chronos all have AR coating on the inside. It's noticeable, but not bad.

The problem with that 42mm one is its size. The subdials are too large, almost meeting in the middle, and makes it look like it has a movement that's too small. The 40mm version is much better proportioned to my eyes, with similar dial balance to the 37mm original.

Well that's new, and good, news to me. Back on the list the 40mm goes. Appreciated.

With the 42mm LE, the thing to have done is fit a flat, or shallow-angle bezel and then a domed crystal. This would shrink the dial diameter by a mm or two (since the visible area through the crystal would be smaller) and allow a subdial placement more like the 40. Bell&Ross's V2-9x range is a good example of how to hide the bulk.

As it happens I prefer the evil-panda colour scheme of the LE but Hamilton won't make that in the 40. Plenty of manufacturers have done things like that and taken a shoeing for it...
