The Music of Poland, Part 3

Post by MKTheVintageBloke » May 12th 2020, 4:20pm

With some delay, here's the last selection of music from Europe's New Headache. This time, I'm covering stuff recorded from the 1960s to present (in no particular order).

First, the band that can be credited as the beginning of blues and rock in Poland - Breakout. Their style was - so I believe - somewhat similar to Jefferson Airplane.

Next up, a band that was sort of our alternative to The Beatles - Czerwone Gitary:

Now, Kult - a band that's around since 1982, and still active - there isn't a single Pole who wouldn't know them.

Next, a Polish hit of the 1990s - and possibly the best musical tribute to my hometown, "Warszawa" by T.Love:

In this particular case, I'll bother to translate the lyrics for ya:
Beyond the window wakes a winter's day
I'm beginning another day in life
I look out the window, with sleep on my eyes
And Grochów wakes up from its drunkenness
The booze drank hits the arteries
The bus splashes the snow
Through the glass I watch a capital of concrete
I'm already on its other side

When I look in your eyes, as tired as mine
I'm loving this city as tired as I
Where Hitler and Stalin did their thing
Where the spring breathes fumes

Krakowskie Przedmieście is flooded in sunlight
You whirl like a cloud, emerge from the gate
And I'm famished, so very starving
Darling, sustain me with dreams
The green Żoliborz, fucking Żoliborz
Blossoms on trees and shrubs
Completely drunk with the filthy river
I want to scream, to bellow, to sing

When I look in your eyes, as tired as mine
I'm loving this city as tired as I
Where Hitler and Stalin did their thing
Where the spring breathes fumes

In autumn always begins the school,
And in bars begins the drinking
It's crowded and stuffy, the waiter ignores us
Anyway we'll be done by dawn
In autumn I'm always thinking of ages
As old as these buildings
In autumn at dusk I'm walking with you
Through streets littered with chestnuts

When I look in your eyes, as tired as mine
I'm loving this city as tired as I
Where Hitler and Stalin did their thing
Where the spring breathes fumes

Mr. Bloke the amateur interpreter, at your service.

Now, one of the very few Polish bluesmen - Ryszard Riedl and his band, Dżem (Jam):

Perfect - a rock band founded in the late 1970s, and still active. I don't think there was any day, on which while listening to the radio, I wouldn't hear something by them.

And, to wrap it up, a contemporary Polish rockman - Tomasz Organek:

This song of his, in English, pretty much shows where his inspirations come from...

Hope this little selection has provided you with some good stuff to listen to during the corona madness.
You cannot explain away a wantonly immoral act, because you think that it is connected to some higher purpose.
