Re: I want my MTV!

In 1983 I rode in a bike race called The Tour of Texas, in Austin. I think it was about three weeks long. I stayed in some college apartment complex for students called The Plaza something. I was in college myself at the time. When I wasn't cycling or eating, which was most of the day, I was recovering, which consisted of hanging out in this room with a tv. It was like being in county lock up, except the tv was one of those horrible projection deals, and the furniture was a series of sectionals, mashed together so as to give the effect of being in a swimming pool filled with cushions. It was always dark in that room, and MTV was always playing, and back then it was only music videos. In retrospect, what strikes me is that this was, unbeknownst to me at the time, an incredibly short lived period of pop music history. I would have sworn, at that time, that music would always be served up in video format, and that MTV would always and forever be about music videos. Pretty sure at that time I was wearing a Seiko driver's watch, which was a funky Giorgetto Giugiaro design.

Spring break was nuts here in Daytona in the 80’s and early 90’s. This is when MTV was still playing music videos and the city actually was cool.
