Paper Dials and Cutting-Edge Quartz

Post by koimaster » February 8th 2022, 11:31pm

Long available only to the Japanese domestic market, Citizen’s top-of-the-line quartz watches have been slowly making their way into foreign countries in recent years (although last year’s high-end mechanical Caliber 0200 was launched internationally).

The latest high-end quartz model, however, is being launched globally. The Citizen Iconic Nature Collection is a quartet of lightweight titanium watches featuring dials made of traditional, translucent Japanese paper dyed in vivid, natural colours. But the mechanics are cutting edge in contrast – a solar-powered quartz movement accurate to within five seconds a year.

The Chronomaster was released last October . They featured the A060 movement, super titanium cases, and 6 models with textured dials and 1 model with a white paper dial. They were widely available for about $2250 and $2400 respectively on a nicely executed titanium bracelet.

The current release differs, as far as I can tell, only in that all 4 variants have vibrantly dyed paper dials and are limited to 250 pieces per dial. The price is $3500 on a crocodile strap, or an 1100 skins premium for a dye job and the privilege of being 1 in 1000 folks to have 1 of the first 4 colors to be introduced.

For my money - that won't be spent on any of them - the white paper dialed Chronomaster is the best looking of the bunch.

One of these or the 4020? Bloody tough decision.
Accurate to 5 seconds a year, the A060 is certainly in the major leagues of quartz movements - as good as the best and better than the rest. If you're looking for top-end quartz these or the CM would be good choices, indeed.

Definitely good movements but that's not as important to me these days. I really like the cases, handsets and dials on these.
