Citizen New Generation Mechanical Watch

Post by koimaster » October 25th 2021, 8:12am

In recent years, Citizen has established its position as the producer of hyper-accurate quartz pieces – when you hear "annual accuracy," you think of Citizen. The Caliber 0100, which has a stunning accuracy of ± 1 second per year, was an astonishing achievement, and the watch represented a crystallization of Citizen's long-time R&D in the frequency manipulation of quartz crystals.

That same Citizen has now introduced a mechanical piece with a brand-new caliber: The Citizen Mechanical Caliber 0200, an apparent counterpart to its "annual accuracy" quartz models. This watch was made possible through the technical exchange with La Joux-Perret, a Swiss movement producer Citizen acquired in 2012, combining the Swiss maker's movement manufacturing and finishing expertise with its Japanese parent company's mechanical design and assembly capabilities.

My word…. That thing is stunning! That crinkle finish dial looks like vintage Ferrari valve covers, the thin-ish case has angles in the shape that conjures (no offense) thoughts of the vintage Oysterquartz, and the detailed finishing, polishing, and brushing looks to be on par with some of the best. It’s too soon to say the hands are GS-like…. But it looks like they could be!

Nuvolari APPROVES.

Nice looking to be sure.

They make much of the movement having a free sprung balance, and while Citizen is only the second Japanese manufacturer to develop one, the free sprung balance has been around for decades.

The accuracy, rated -3 / +5 is very good, but not worthy of the hype given Omega's 0 / +5 METAS rating or Rolex's Superlative Chronometer rating of + / - 2, for example.

With no SOTA materials used to make the springs or enhanced anti-magenetic properties, the movement is much adieu about, well, not much.

$6,000 - No thanks.

I am a huge fan of Citizen.

So why don't I like this? Virtually nothing about it appeals to me. The description reads exciting; the actual product is - dare I write this? - too old-mannish.

Oh, wait, our village idiot is long banished - I think I can write whatever I fucking want!

Agree with TB
Meritocracy: the privilege, wealth and advancement of those who chose their parents wisely.
Capitalism: a cult that promised to do good for the worst reasons.
Nationalism: a profound longing to go back to a past that never existed.
