Nicest 4220 on an original early rivet stretch oyster

Post by smellody » October 31st 2023, 4:28pm

Before the Submariner, GMT, Explorer, and the multiple models that derived from these famous 1950s sports models there was the humble Speedking.

Based on the volume of these available, they were a popular model and were the true sports Rolex of the 30's and 40's. I have many of these, but the one I picked up last week is pretty special.

Look at the dial. It is fantastic. Despite the radium burn from being stored with the hour and minute hands at 8:25, it is a time warp. Dating from 1945, this watch is 78 years young.

The crystalmis crazed and will be replaced, but from the different angles you can see how good the dial is.

Love the even patina to the lume.

Now look at this bracelet! It is TIGHT.

Before you ask, yes, it is a Rolex oyster bracelet. Just a VERY early one.

For me, the bracelet was worth the price of admission. Off for a service and new crystal.
