5513 PCG Gilt Underline . . .full, full set. 1965

I'm over the moon. I have other gilt no crown guard subs, but this one is amazing. Picked it up today.

Gilt, underline dial. Not a crack or craze. Acrylic crystal has some deep scratches, but most buffed out. Actually thought the dial was going to be all cracked when I first saw the watch.

No if he just buffed the crystal then he probably added 10-30k in value as it is a full set. Watch I’d value at 45-55 k knowing Smellody he stole it. Nice work my friend! I’m drooling over here.

Imagine what it might be worth with the pip, by golly. Climbed the wall to catch that one, man. Did the underline signify better lume or an improved movement? Have heard both.

That’s interesting because I’m always reading/hearing people always saying don’t touch anything on a Rolex just keep it as is.

Acrylic crystal isn't an issue for polishing and replacing if an original part... I have a new factory crystal for all my vintage sport models.

Also, a missing pip ain't no thing. In fact, replacing with a new luminescent pip is worse than no pip. Also, like many thing they shrivel and fall out/off.

Service is also not an issue as long as Rolex parts are used. This has a 1530 movement, also used (and first used) in my '58 5508. Much easier to source original parts than the a260 movement in my '54 6205.

1965 and $500.
I was a 2 striper in the Air Force and only made $1,266 for the year for reference. If I knew then what I know now.............................

Exclamation point and underline dials mean the same thing: the lume applied to the dial is at a level safe enough NOT to burn your arm hair.

Rolex had lawsuits and recalls in the late 50's because of the amount of dangerous radium they were using.

If you look at my 5508. It looks like the surface of the moon because of the radium burn.

After the recall, dials with safe radium levels had a little dot above the SWISS which aligned with an indice making, well, an !.

Underline either above (Like mine) or below the Submariner were another indication that the watch was safe with now tritium v radium. Once the in stock dials were used up the underlines went away and were replaced and T<25 appeared...

The lower radiation and lack of water egression allowed this dial to survive. They usually start going with cracks.
