Top grade 2892 movement and Titanium grade 5 * (correction to me previously stating Grade 2)* case & metal strap … wears easy and light …. While I do enjoy the overall tool look of the watch with the chunky titanium strap … it is transformed for dare I say casual wear on a leather strap. My preference is the brown strap combination.

Went shore diving this morning....hit 11.6m. it's comforting to know Mr Helberg would have me covered for another 5988m should I ever need it

lol .... nice to know you have that covered with an H2o watch . . . .. I was reading yesterday, on the British Watch Making Day . .. that H2o apparently now holds the word record for watch depth ratings . .. . of course almost all modern divers now use/rely on more technical & computerized equipment.

True, though depending on the application it's can still be handy to have a watch. I wore a Seiko SNE441P today.

We were exploring the caves out the back of Point Peron in Rockingham Western Australia. There are points where you have to surface swim over the reef briefly and the dive computer ends the dive if you surface and starts another as you go back under. Makes it hard to know your total elapsed dive time...unless you have a dive watch.

Like many people these past decades …. I have had my fair share of travelling, and then some ….. I am frightened to go to Australia…. As I might never come back home … it looks too me to be one big adventure … think I may be tempted to do a “Ned Kelly” and go on the run …., looks fun and adventurous to me ….

Do they test the watches to 6,000m? There wouldn't be too many testers capable of such pressure.

Yes, at H2o they have developed a pressure kettle for testing … I think they are now testing some up to 10 mile that is more than 16000 meters or more than 52000 feet …. That’s technology I guess …. The wearer will obviously be crushed … but the watch will stay intact …. lol

Concept refined

Stockton LE, depth rating is to the depth of the Titanic wreckage.

On the back, engraving of Stockton headshot with dates of birth and death underneath.

On a circle around this, engrave

Would be interesting to see where this would go as a kickstarter. Internet scolding should be relatively minimal because pretty much everyone recognizes him as a reckless fool.

That's very impressive, developing their own test equipment (if it's accurate).

I was surprised as well. 10 miles is 1609 atmospheres or 51,392 PSI.

Roughly. HP air systems in industrial applications commonly top out around 6000 PSI

I wonder how much a watch case can deform under that pressure and how much the overall design of the watch has to take deformation into consideration.

It is incredible

I couldn't find much on the latest watches (very brief search) but I wonder if they need to go to an hydraulic press for that pressure. Incredible.

Did my own quick search.

Seems like HP air systems top out around 10k psi

Specialty companies are selling Hydraulic stuff up to 58k psi, that I found on quick search.

TIL Hydraulic intensifiers is a relevant search term for digging into the topic further

Skipping over to H2O website, one finds that they are selling a watch rated at 25000 meters, which they vlaim is a world record for a watch. Certification was done by independent German outfit

Surprisingly affordable at 1305 euros.

These guys are madmen

I purchased this H2O Kalmar II Oceanic Time Special Edition 6000M watch back Spring 2017 direct from H2o, Germany . .. .. cannot remember how much I paid exactly, but I think it was around £780 overall which exchanged at around US$1012 at the that time and I thought it was a fair even bargain price for the watch.

The watch’s dimensions: The case has a diameter of 42.5mm, the bezel a diameter of 44mm while the overall-length is 53.4mm and the total thickness of the watch (including the crystal) is just 16.5mm.
Putting that into perspective – that is .5mm thinner than an Omega Planet Ocean XL which has 10 times less WR at 600M, is 2mm thinner than a Breitling Avenger Seawolf which has just half the WR at 3000M and is a full 12mm thinner than one of the only other watches with an equivalent WR, the CX 20,000 FEET.
One of the contributing factors that allowed H2O to engineer this watch with such a modest thickness in relation to its WR, was the use of Grade 5 Titanium, which has been used for the main case and its components.

^^This ought to be a big seller once all the concept bitching settles down

Although, a watch with such capacity for depth kinda jacks things up for the archeologists chasing the debris:

Approximate time of death?

“Well, we think he was squished about 2 days ago… but with an 80 hour power reserve it looks like his watch only demonstrates that my watch is running about three minutes slow…”

If you get 25km depth rating watch worked on, seems like one would have to send it back to them for sealing it back up and pressure testing.
