SKX007 Gone but never dead - The revival is here

Post by Watch Noob » January 7th 2021, 5:19pm

Since Seiko decided to discontinue the SKX007 and replace it with the Seiko 5 series, I thought it would be interesting to see where others are picking up the pieces. Here's a selection for your perusal.

Thoughts?

And no doubt that all of these replacement versions have bezels that actually align.

Something I have yet to understand about Seiko is their absolutely insane attention to detail in the GS line vs their "fuck it" approach to a simple QC issue like the long flawed SKX bezel inserts.

Isn't like the insert issue on the SKX would have cost them to correct in production, they just didn't give a shit.

Want to buy a GS?
Fuck you, pay me.

Don't like the SKX insert?
Fuck you, pay me.

Won't buy a Seiko but like micros with our NH35?
Fuck you, pay me.

Islander would get my vote. So intriguing.
Same. And the owner will most definitely stand behind his product.

I do like Islander's version as well but at $300 why not spend the extra $35 and get the actual Seiko? I think I'd wait for a sale on the Islander but I do see one of their Diver's in my future this year.

You can find the Seiko for $335?
Best of luck to all my longtime friends here. Please stay safe, always.

You can get 40% off of the Deep Blue with code DEEP
Seriously? That would make it $150? Worth a serious look, but I have something on the way that I'm sure some will frown upon but others like me will say fuck Seiko pricing and it's better quality  Not a 007 however.

:chump: nope. I'll post it after I receive it and decide if it's worthy of a Lord peek and harassment.

I had bought a modded SKX007 and then I got the Islander. I gave the Seiko to my grandson; he loves the orange dial.

I've been happy with my Islander but yesterday I noticed one of the bracelet pins had come loose and was on the verge of falling out and being lost forever. Do you guys ever use a bit of Loctite blue on these things?

Most definitely sir, feel free to add a bit of loctite to the pins.
Side Story, I purchased a Orient Saturation Diver a few years back, mind you this was a $1300 watch and one of the pins gave loose on Day 2 of wearing it. My method of fixing was to put the bracelet in a box and buy a more robust bracelet.
