The same thing happened with the Duryea Brothers believing they had developed the first car since they knew nothing about Carl Benz doing so eight years before.

Their reluctance to part with the tiller over a directional guidance ‘wheel’ is not believed to have enhanced sales… which, in part, is why you have never heard of them before now.
