Gonna throw some 150gr. FMJ down range with one of these;

M1 Carbide?
Nope, this one is the larger brother, the M1 Garand.
It shoots the more powerful M2 cartridge (civilian .30-06 Springfield). The .30 cal carbine round is basically a potent pistol round used for close in wartime battles.

I'm still amazed me how accurate these WW2 rifles shoot.
I do need to shoot it more often............. and perhaps even use it as my elk rifle next season, iron sights and all. Wouldn't that be neat.

Cooler than a Subzero kegorator, Cod. As I developed a shotgun & pistol preference through the years, I sold all my old rifles. Couple of Brownings, a few Winchester, and the M1 carbide... That’s the only one I miss... it was lightweight at the most easy to control spot-on accurate rifle in the history of gunpowder. I don’t get out into desert areas anymore and there are no suitable ranges nearby... so, I let someone else enjoy them. Now someone else can look like a much better shot than they actually are...

A study in contrasts, today:

Had a meeting this morning:

Back home, dressed down with something suitable for tinkering around in the garage. Quite frankly, an absolute bargain in hack/hand winding mechanical autos... $50? I can’t get an estimate to repair any decent watch for less than that. A damn shame about the awful company and their complete disregard for quality in general... But at $50 if the damn hands fall off I’d have no qualms about trying to fix it myself - and, upon catastrophic failure, I will throw it gleefully into the garbage.
