Bring a Brain XV

Post by MKTheVintageBloke » September 13th 2017, 1:30pm

Another instalment of Bring a Brain is here! Here's the link:
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f11/bring-brain-xv-4532129.html
There's some rather unsavoury stuff this week- that including a redialed (and likely franken) Omega.
Mr. Bloke wishes to express his hope that the Lords will find it, as with the previous instalments, an entertaining read.

Excellent sleuthing. Does Hoodwinkie ever sell legit pieces?

Thanks! Well, for the last few weeks, they didn't give me much of a reason to give them a proper walloping for selling rubbish, so it's not like they sell junk all the time. The only constant issue is the obscene pricing, so I'm not even commenting on that any longer, as it's just too obvious.

Good idea!

The Omega Frankenmaster Fleecermatic is as shitty as shit gets. Still, the rusted Jaeger doesn't fall far behind.

An addendum to the last BaB, is this crappy franken posted on WUS.

MK is incommunicado at the moment, and asked me to post this here.

This isn't Bring a Brain, but just a short communique. This time, I am absolutely gobsmacked!!!! Dear audience, behold - a piece of complete and utter franken rubbish, long overdue for its well-deserved meeting with the trash can:
https://shop.hodinkee.com/collections/w ... 9568051215

First of all, I don't know what genius could have ever believed, that a dial marked "Incabloc" is correct for a non-shockproof movement. Many words come to mind. Pillock. Dunce. Just to name a few. Seriously, sometimes I'm truly amazed by how thick can the Shop get.

Louis, please tell me that it didn't go past you, or that you were badly undercaffeinated and missed this one completely.

Case marked "Schild Co.", dial "Aqua-Lung", movement unsigned. Oh, for crying out loud! The wee bastard of a blithering franken could use as much as a tiniest pinch of consistency, no? By Jove!

But the movement... No, the frankenising didn't stop there. Something was either struck off of the chrono bridge, or it comes from a different movement.
The condition of the movement is just bloody ghastly. Rust, debris... Grease thick and disgusting, looks like someone has dumped a whole barrel of week-old cooking fat from a "greasy spoon" in there. If not for the fact, that cursing isn't allowed here, I'd already be doing Gordon Ramsay-style uncensored rapid fire in here.

And for that bloody pile of rubbish, someone has been robbed of $3400.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhh hhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloody hell!

End of communique.

No wonder they don't like posting pics of the movement on most sales...
I also noted (and mailed Mike the info) that the chronograph return spring has been replaced by a broken old bit of spring steel, instead of the real thing.

Here is a blow up with that spring steel scrap, and another pic showing the five dollar part that should be there.

Just look at the state of that taty, rusty old movement, no shock protection means it is probably older than the watch by several decades!

well written and to the point. I imagine some are wringing their hands and others running off to mods to beg to have you banned for exposing the fraud that is so common on some watch forums. I second Racer-x and his suggestion of posting the articles here as well. In fact, perhaps like the Dive photos section and the Albertatime section, we can put a section in for Mort and for you where your posts such as these are housed.

Adam Harris the king of fake actually complained at length about Bring a Brain XIV, and made himself look a right cock in the process.
He made comments about the "claims and innuendos" made by MK and others, and even complained to moderators about someone posting details of a private message.
Makes for fun reading.

Big thanks to Bob for posting it - looks like I had an issue with posting here when connected to the wifi in one marina (I'm in Croatia until Saturday, sailing and drinking), but in another one, it looks like it works now.

Yes, the Horopinworm came there to troll my thread, but got a walloping. He's been badmouthing Georges Zaslavsky, a fan of the BaB series and even more anti-Donkey than I am, should being any more anti-Donkey than I am be possible at all.

HOROLOGISTAUSTINPOWERS now trolls me in order to crawl up Donkey bottom - which is why in his posts in the recent BaB he spits venom at me, and is just oozing vaseline when talking to Louis. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd plot against me by trying to talk the mods into banning me, but it so happens, that the mods tolerate Bring a Brain, and some - like Hartmut, the Zenith and Vintage forums mod - happen to enjoy it!

Next BaB will be published as a full text here at WL, as suggested. Also, I think a new section for posts like that is a fantastic idea. Maybe call it "The Hyde Park" or "Crusaders' Den." :)

By all means, you should post your columns here. Worthy reading, and they continue the great WL tradition of calling out BS when we encounter it.

I mean, the first time I ever logged on here, I knew it was the joint. Great work, MK; you have such an incredible learned eye.
