Bulova Moon Watch Chronograph For 2017 Hands-On

Post by Racer-X » June 14th 2017, 3:47pm

by Ariel Adams "For 2017, Bulova is slightly updating and adding to its very desirable Moon Watch Chronograph watch collection with the Bulova Moon Watch Chronograph 98A186. The price is right and it looks pretty great. The story of this collection goes back to the 1960s when Bulova was competing with Omega to be the official choice of watch for the NASA Apollo astronaut missions. Omega won that battle, but astronaut Dave Scott still wore a Bulova chronograph (that looked extremely similar to an Omega Speedmaster) to the moon. That particular watch sold at auction a few years ago for well over a million dollars."

The black straps would look good on the original steel model.
I think the removal of the date window was a good idea but other than that this is a meh. The font change on "Bulova" made me check my original version to see if it made a difference. It does not. I never would have noticed had REL not mentioned it.
These companies like Bulova , and especially Seiko , need to learn to leave well enough alone once they introduce a well received design.

Actually like the removal of the date. The satin black finish is well done and would love be to see it on a matching bracelet. IF it is durable is another issue.

The font change is another story. Look too similar to the CW hipster dufus font for my taste.

Looks almost like the late 1960s-1970s Bulova font, the only difference is the size of the B- in the original font, the B would have been larger than the rest of the letters.

Can't quite see the similarity between this font and that of CW - the font used by CW is, frankly, indeed a bit more suitable for a maker of underwear or consumer electronics, but not of watches.

I dunno; I think the new model's pretty sharp.

They're still gonna sell a boatload of these, just like last year's model. This is the one thing that Bulova has really hit a home run with during the past few years.

I have last year's Moon Watch, as do many of you, and I love it. Since I am too old to go on dates, the lack of a date is MEH. In fact, no date is liberating since I retired and don't have to know what today's date is.

When this version is released, I am going to have a talk with myself about adding it to the collection.

Excuse me? Who pissed in your Corn Flakes this morning?

Nothing wrong with a PVD bracelet other than fear of scratches.

The bracelet on the 2016 model is extremely well done in stainless. The 2017 PVD case is an attractive option; but, for those who need to wear their watches a bit loose for comfort, no bracelet is a deal breaker.

Poor Bigloaf, likes to dish out shit, but can't handle the truth.

By the way don't eat corn flakes, like rice chex much better.

Every post you make, it would be better on a bracelet, just go back and reread your own posts. So predictable.

Get a room boys 8-)

BL does carry on about bracelets but I rant on much worse about bezel designs. Its annoying when you care about an issue and its keeps being done poorly watch after watch

Well, I only wear watches on bracelets. Have tried other options but arthritis is aggravated by straps. There are amazing watches that I will never own because they look like shite on bracelets. That is unavoidable.

Then there are watches that would be great on bracelets; but, they aren't offered. Or there are great watches on shitty bracelets.

Watch bracelet design is an important part of the package. If it gets in your crawl that it is important to me, well, you will just have to get over it.
