This is fantastic news, or not, depending on where the Admiral spent his time.
After New York, the Admiral should travel to Sandston, Virginia, where recent news reports claim packages have gone missing.

Exactly. I-95 is customarily a fucking nightmare. Absolutely true, it once took me 7 hours to go the 100 miles between Richmond and DC.

Has arrived and departed from Maryland, for some reason. Presumably should be in Virginia tomorrow, and perhaps in Amelia by, dare we hope, Saturday?
I am almost giddy with excitement.

THE most insufferable drive in America. When I drive south on long trips, I leave from NYC at 11 pm just to avoid the hell of the DC corridor.

Be sure you're wearing your Lords dress uniform as you pipe the Admiral aboard!

Quite so. Medals and sashes are in order. As to further protocol, a Rear Admiral (lower half of the naval list) is entitled to an 11 gun salute - one from the upper half, a salute of 13 guns.

A cap with a feather in it, and a codpiece?

Given the Admiral's unfortunate experience here in Washington State, I'd probably pass on the codpiece. However, a proper cocked (!) hat, worn athwartships, in the proper Nelson manner, with an ostrich plume, would most certainly be in order. One should not wear a cocked (!) hat in the modern style, a la Fellatio Cornholer, which would obviously be déclassé.
