Royal Orient WE0021JA: Peak Orient?

Post by anonymous-3027 » February 3rd 2023, 4:25pm

The WE0021JA and it’s black dialect stable mare were released shortly before they he Royal Orient line up as shut down after Seiko completed their takeover

It contains the thinnest and most accurate movement at -4/+6 secs/day. The workmanship displays grand seiko level aspirations

The JA series are essentially the same but with a power reserve complication

39mm case It’s your basic UJW with the addition of some subtle Orient theatrics. Basically Orient can’t play anything completely straight like Citizen, they always gotta ham it up a bit like with the indices

Yet another generic looking japanese watch that looks like the majority of all the others in their catalog.
Orient & Seiko has a ton of them it seems. One would think a wartch manufacturer would change up the appearance some but probably be afraid of upsetting their fanboys and girls.

One of the watches I do wish I didn’t pass up on.
Well the pictures are of a minty one on Japan auctions now. Opening bid 300,000 yen, about .2.4K USD:

The bullseye dial is cool and is a recurring motif for OS/Royal Orient

I always wanted a Royal Orient. The best I could do is a Orient Star Royal.

The JA series is the one to get because of the upgraded movement. The JB series is identical except for addition of power reserve

This is the auction listing for the photos above. Good benchmark for price discovery on the model

Some translation. When you see beauty product that means minty

So minty example with full kit box etc

Right now it had three hours left and no bids at 298,000 yen, about 2400 USD current exchange rate

Now getting it from there to here will add 15 percent for PayPal and auction proxy fees

So say 2800 to us foreigners amd he’s not getting it

So that’s looking like a ceiling for one of these. Looks to me like the listing will roll. We will see

Good collector item potential for those interested in this niche. It would basically be impossible to buy one of these at whatever the market value is now and then not get that in the future

Pretty much baked in on this model

Yup, like Omega has done with the Speedmaster and Railmaster, and Rolex has with the Sub!!

Oh, wait...

Capitalism: a cult that promised to do good for the worst reasons.
Nationalism: a profound longing to go back to a past that never existed.
