On the way Orent Star WZ0061EJ

Had the silver dialed version, and always wished I had gotten the black one.

The domed crystal integrates into case lines really nicely on this model

Nice. Yahoo auctions? What proxy do you recommend?
Yea and I’ve been using jauce.com for years, quite happy with them.

How do you view completed auctions and the USD?
I honestly don’t know: I don’t look at completed auctions there. I used to in the past on yahoo auction site itself but haven’t done so for a while

The dollars I just do in my head from living in Japan for some years

The site is rudimentary and hasn’t changed much in years. My thought is that it may be geared more to people familiar with Japan but are now outside Japan so they need a forwarder

So thinking about it, not a lot of stuff to accommodate foreigners other than raw translation and not very good at that sometimes

That all being said they do do exactly what I need, the barebones stuff, and they’ve done that without a glitch or a hiccup ever for me

There are other sites I get ads for them occasionally but I’ve never felt the need. My guess is that there may be some more sophisticated offerings, maybe look around some Japanese watch interest forums for current recommendations

Nice deep black dial, sharp.
I’m glad to hear that, as this watch is a candidate for the black watch slot in my newly formulated watch collection plan going forward.

Been out of watch stuff since 2019, when I sold off my high end stuff.

Great stuff but for me my interest at that level was satiated.

Then covid and three years of flying monkeys, kinda finally get breathing room to address watch stuff

Went through a few months of catch and release just kinda thinking about things

This is also in the context of a major downsizing and simplifying trend across the board in my life.

So when I hit the recent Citizen I was struck by how generic, or, more kindly, archetypal it was. But at the same time I also thought jeez I could wear this longer than any other watch I have before I’d get sick of it.

I thought, well that’s simple. At first I thought we’ll maybe I’ll just go full One Watch

Which I largely have been doing since I bought it

But that seemed a little extreme and I thought ok, let’s say this is the daily wearer, what other ones would be essential for some other occasion stuff

The number one is a black dial. And something a little more styling because for me a black dial is when you want to look a little sharp, After Six kinda thing

Only issue is it may be a little big for my evolving preference towards smaller pieces. Diameter is 38mm, but it’s a big 38, both the dial and thickness.

So we will see. If not find another candidate.

This SCVS007 ticks a lot of boxes, the first being a two tone but just under the crystal

Second is that it leans towards salmon a bit, a color I’ve always liked. Third, the case has a gazillion aftermarket bracelets

The design reference to Japanese vintage watches and that it is most likely a cult favorite in Japan but not outside is cool Easter egg mojo

And maybe a dive watch at 38 or 39mm.

Everything else is going on EBay. I don’t have anything particularly unusual left now except SBSS003, minty, and I’m actually interested to see what it will bring at auction

I’ve been off eBay for a similar theee years but once I get rolling I clear out a lot of stuff.

Excellent. That's hot-ass
I don’t know whatever possessed me ti get the silver dial one, which I regretted almost immediately. It’s ok looking but doesn’t have an edge like the black one.

I like tonneaus generally but finding one I like specifically enough to wear it has been challenging for some reason I don’t fully understand.

This is ok

But pretty meh compared to this.

I like hearing that. It’s what I want from a black dial.

Bracelet is nice enough, I figure I’ll wear it on that

The OS WZxxxxEJ line was really nice, some if the best from OS, classy stuff.

Interestingly, conjurer wrote this classic review of the WZ0011EJ, depicted below.

Pretty much whatever he says about the spirit of that one applies to this one

Fantastic dial.
I had one for several years and it was a great daily wearer

I liked what OS was doing back then, this stuff, Royal Orient, OS300, the nice chronographs

But it seems like Seiko did not as this all got shut down and OS got assigned a narrower niche in Seikos universe

And that seems ti be very heavy on the open heart and Roman numerals, neither of which interest me.

Nice bracelet and build quality on these, though. It was all coming together, hacking handwinding, quality feel all around

They did some nice work then, or at least that appeals to me.

In all fairness, the date window surround is epic fail, shoulda not gone there, and this model took grief for it

That is a great looking watch!

To me - the date window surround is a little nod to that persistent element of Japanese design we often refer to as ‘quirky’.

In automotive and horological settings there will always be at least one component that will compel a passive observer into wondering, ‘But why?’.
